The Newark-Granville Youth Symphony is in its fourth season under the direction of Susan Larson.  The NGYS brings together gifted young orchestra musicians from Licking and surrounding counties and provides an opportunity to study and perform a broad range of orchestral repertoire. We are committed to inspiring cultural awareness and appreciation of music, strengthening our region's existing school music programs, and helping students develop their musical skills to their fullest potential.
The Newark-Granville Youth Symphony rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 6:00–8:15 P.M.  The orchestra will rehearse as a string orchestra in the fall and then will rehearse as a full symphony orchestra beginning in November.  The orchestra performs three major concerts a year.  Coaching for our students is provided by professional musicians from the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
To be eligible for this orchestra, all musicians must be members of their school band or orchestra program.  If there is not a band or orchestra program available at their school, this requirement will be waived.  The Newark-Granville Youth Symphony is an orchestra to supplement school band and orchestra programs and not be used as an alternative to those programs.
Newark-Granville Youth Orchestra Members are selected through auditions held in the Spring.  All auditions are heard by the Youth Orchestra Directors and professional musicians from the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra.

For further audition information please contact the Newark-Granville Youth Symphony at 740-501-0461.
